Harry McDaniel

Born in Wichita Kansas in 1959, Harry McDaniel has lived in Montford for 31 years. Primarily self-taught, Harry discovered his penchant for art in his mid-20’s. He received several awards in early exhibitions, but his first significant acknowledgment came in 1988 when he was commissioned to create a suspended sculpture for the Agricultural History Park in Derwood, Maryland. That seminal project deepened his interest in large-scale art for public spaces. Two fellowships from  the North Carolina Arts Council furthered  his creative explorations. Since 1999, he has installed a new public art project almost every year, in locations from Michigan to Florida. Throughout his career, Harry’s designs have reflected his attraction to natural forms, his fascination with movement, and his interest in human interactions.
